An Anniversary at the Beach

It’s their one year wedding anniversary… but they’ve been together for 10! Ashley is my best friend, she’s been on family vacations, we were in each others wedding.  Maybe it would be easier just to recite the speech I gave at hers? Either way… she’s one of a kind. Keith has been around for as long as I can remember. He started out as my best friend’s boyfriend but he’s become one of my closest friends… an older brother. Keith isn’t one for the spotlight and doesn’t prefer to be in front of the camera. Ashley, on the other hand, is the life of the party and has more frames around her house than anyone I know. This past Christmas Keith asked Steven and I about doing 1 year anniversary pictures for he and Ashley at a location very meaningful for them; Hatteras Island, NC. One year ago today they were honeymooning here. We were so excited to be able to tag along this time around!

Brandi and Buck Engaged!

Last week we returned to one of our favorite locations at Lower Byrd Farm in Goochland. Brandi and Buck’s wedding is in less than two weeks so it was great to be able to get this engagement shoot done in time! It was very obvious after spending some time with them that their wedding couldn’t be anything but fun! Get ready to see more of Brandi and Buck in a few weeks, but for now enjoy some of our favorites from their engagement shoot!

Brittany and Kirke Engaged!

As we started to wind down from one of our busiest weeks ever, we met Brittany and Kirke for their engagement session at Brown’s Island and Belle Isle! They are one of the most easy going couples we’ve met and we loved walking around the city with them!

Julie and Jim Engaged!

We LOVE when our clients have engagement shoot locations that really mean something to them. Julie and Jim had their very first date at Caliente in the Fan, so what better place to start an engagement session! If only we could have stayed long enough to watch Jim take the Stupid Wings Challenge!

Claire and Ryan Engaged!

The amazing weather is finally here! With the warm weather comes leaves and blooms, and we took FULL advantages of our new found color with Claire and Ryan. We can’t say enough how much fun engagement sessions are, and these guys really kicked things off right. There’s no doubt this got us even more excited for their wedding in November!

Caitlin and Jeremy Engaged!

When Caitlin first contacted us she said she was looking for an engagement session for her and her fiance at William & Mary. They wanted to to know if they could wear their football jerseys; ABSOLUTELY! She followed this by saying she had already contacted the school and received permission to be on the field… I knew I liked her at that moment! She knew what she wanted, she was excited and organized. Fabulous!! The only downside if I had to search for one…is that they aren’t Raven’s fans. Neither of these jerseys are purple, BUT, we had a blast, we loved hanging out with them and they love their pictures. What more can we ask for?

Matt and Mallie Engaged!

Steven and I were SO excited for this engagement session at Carter Mountain with Matt and Mallie! Photographing at out of town locations is an adventure and we love scenic Charlottesville! We had heard the week before that the apples were pretty picked over so we were determined to find them! We photographed these two the Saturday before Sandy’s presence was felt along the east coast. Sort of fitting for this couple and their meteorology backgrounds! I think Mallie’s laugh would make anyone smile.  We left the session on such a happy high that I wished their wedding was sooner so we’d see them again in the near future. We can’t wait for May and a return trip to Charlottesvile you two!! I think it was right before this picture when we realized we were towards the back of the orchard and the sun was setting fast. Matt pulled out his phone to check our location and he and Steven immediately began analyzing the map. Mallie and I were perfectly content finishing our apples and admiring the view!

Molly and James Engaged! Emerald Isle Wedding Photographer

Molly and James are getting married in Emerald Isle, NC on October 6th! This wedding is a special one for us because these two are tying the knot right down the beach from where we got married. We met them for their engagement session at their family’s beach house and with a short walk to the beach access we were on the sand! The photo shoot was super relaxed and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. We hope they have a day like that for their wedding! Molly and James take true advantage of the island lifestyle. They ride their bikes everywhere; from the beach they rode to a dock they frequent often at sunset. After the shoot was over they were off on their bikes again to listen to some live music at the Emerald Club.

Krista and Mike Engaged! – Alexandria Wedding Photographer

Since Krista and Mike live in Arlington, Steven and I were really watching the weather closely for this engagement shoot; we wanted the perfect day! We got rained out on the original weekend but two weeks later we rescheduled for a Saturday night. Again, rain was in the forecast but this time so was high wind! Our thought was that we’d have to reschedule for a different weekend, which is tricky with our calendar this time of year. Then we had a thought, the best time to photograph is the golden hour, the hour before sunset but also, the hour after sunrise. So we posed the question, who’s up for a sunrise photo shoot?!?! They agreed! We were actually pretty surprised! If that wasn’t enough they then offered for us to stay with them Saturday night so we didn’t have to drive up at 5 A.M the next morning. We both looked down at Finn wondering who could watch him; then a follow up text came in saying “and you can bring your pup too!”… WHAT!?!? Are you kidding? This is where I tell you how much we love them! Krista and Mike are friends of friends, we’ve met briefly once…
